Nkhata Bay, 28th of July 2014
I’ve had the pleasure to meet by chance the NJAYA Lodge in Nkhata Bay in Malawi.
The place is laying on the hill in front of the lake and the view is simply astonishing!
The lake itself looks like a sea and the water is deep blue. Vegetation surrounding the area gives a tropical taste at the area. In fact we are in a tropical area, between the Equator and the Tropic.
Rooms are spread around the big garden descending the hill.
Each rooms has the own toilette and hot shower, basic but really nice.
The last three rooms down to the lake, are at 3 mt from the water.
They are really basic stone wall rooms and they are simply beautiful in their simplicity.
The fact they are straight on the water, gives them a particular atmosphere and you forget there is not the toilette in them. You have to use the common toilette 10 steps above them, not very difficult.
In the morning you can go out of the room and jump straight in the water to have your “natural shower”! I’ve used one of this room, the number 3, straight on the small but private beach and each morning I used to jump in the water for a little swim.
Mr. John at the reception welcomes you showing the place and the rooms available. He speaks a decent English so no problem of communication.
There is a bit of a lack of information about the activities at the reception but they are available in the computer room.
I’m stayed at the beach stone room n°3.
Basic and nice especially because you’re practically on the beach, in front of the water….!
Small king size bed but with a proper mosquito net, essential in a place like this one.
The walls are natural stone wall and they are perfectly integrated with the natural outside
There is no toilette nor a simple sink which will help you brushing your teeth before to go to sleep.
Essential but good enough for the place.
The wood tables with the wood seats are very well integrated with the spirit of the place which wants to recall ancient flavors.
The view from the terrace is simply amazing! All the lake in front of you and the breeze coming from it, gives you a bit of refresh during the hot summer days.
Some little problems with ants, small and not aggressive at all, but I know the property Is acting to solve the issue.
The food is really good just you need to be patient and adapt yourself to the African waiting time!
A bit of improvement on the English level of the waiters but they can communicate by the way.
Garden is going down to the lakeside. Trees and flowers are everywhere and I know they are improving a lot the maintenance of this really peaceful place.
A small but cute private beach guarantee you a bit of privacy, at least when the hotel is not packed! But is really nice and cleaned.
The place itself is really peaceful, the ideal place to stay for recovering from some days of hiking on the surrounding or from some long journey on a car or on a motorbike!
People are friendly and reserved so the peace is guaranteed!
Play on the day that interests and will find listed on the left the news to you, the articles, the diary of the chosen day.
